Women Supporting Women in Middle TN Joins Hands with Feed the City Hendersonville

At Women Supporting Women in Middle TN (WSW), as a non-profit, our hearts are deeply committed to fostering community spirit and supporting those in need. Recently, we participated in the impactful non-profit event, Feed the City Hendersonville, bringing together seven dedicated members of WSW to make a substantial difference.

An Event of Heartfelt Dedication

On the third Saturday in September, our WSW team, comprising volunteers driven by compassion and a shared purpose, gathered to contribute to the Feed the City initiative. This event was more than just assembling meals; it was a testament to our values of caring, support, and active community engagement. Our efforts culminated in creating an astounding 835 meals, meticulously assembled with love and commitment.

Feed the City, first conceptualized in Dallas, Texas, in January 2015, has flourished into a global movement. The program's inception was marked by an extraordinary feat—breaking the Guinness World Record for the Most People Making Sandwiches Simultaneously. Following this remarkable achievement, there was a collective enthusiasm to sustain such activities regularly. Feed the City has since become a beacon of hope, with over 1,600 events welcoming more than 97,000 volunteers across five countries, 11 states, and 64 cities. Together, they've provided over 6.8 million meals to those in need—a monumental achievement led by volunteers passionate about combating hunger.

Our Participation and Vision

As representatives of WSW, our contribution at the Hendersonville event was inspiring and invigorating. Joining forces with other volunteers, we prepared a series of lunches, including sandwiches, chips, and fresh fruit, ensuring nutritious meals for those facing food insecurity. Our efforts were complemented by another dedicated team responsible for distributing these meals, highlighting the collaborative essence of the event.

"We brought 7 people from WSW together, making 835 meals!" shared our Founder, Sheryl Kirkland, beaming with pride. This monumental effort not only brought joy and sustenance to those in need but also reinforced our commitment to making an impact. Inspired by the success and the profound difference made, we are determined to turn our participation into a recurring event. By making Feed the City Hendersonville a monthly event, we aim to double the number of meals prepared, further extending our reach and support within the community.

Why It Matters

Hunger is a pervasive issue that affects thousands of lives daily. Events like Feed the City provide a practical, heartfelt response to this pressing problem, offering meals and hope to those in need. For WSW, involvement in such initiatives aligns perfectly with our core mission: to support and uplift women and families in Middle TN through active community engagement and unwavering compassion.

Participating in Feed the City not only amplifies our impact on fighting hunger but also strengthens our bonds within the community. It provides a platform for our volunteers to channel their energy into meaningful action, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Our Commitment to the Future

At WSW, we believe that every action, no matter how small, contributes to the greater good. Our commitment to Feed the City Hendersonville is a pledge to continue standing by our community, providing support where it is most needed. By making this a monthly event, we aim to not just double the number of meals, but also double the hope, joy, and strength we bring to those we serve.

Together, with continued dedication and the collective efforts of our supportive community, we can push boundaries, break records, and more importantly, break the chains of hunger. We invite you to join us in this mission, to volunteer, to support, and to be part of a movement that makes a tangible difference.
